The #1 most asked question when looking to purchase any Air Conditioner is "How many BTUs do I need?"
An air conditioner's cooling power is measured in BTUs (British Thermal Units), which can range between 5,000 and 34,000 BTUs per hour. The higher the BTU rating, the greater the cooling capacity. Use the chart below to determine the recommended BTU capacity for your room size. The BTU Rating listed below is using the latest CEC standards.
NOTE: If the unit will be in a sunny room, hot & humid setting, extreme temperature environment, busy kitchen, or room with high ceilings, you may want to round up to a higher BTU.
- Room Square Footage: Measure the length and width of your room, then multiply the dimensions to get the total square footage. Refer to this number when determining cooling capacity.
- NOTE: Ceiling height can also affect the BTU Rating required for cooling. If looking to cool a room or space with high ceilings that are 10' or higher, a larger BTU capacity would be recommended.
*BTU Ratings per Sq. Ft. listed is based on latest CEC/DOE testing standards.
