All Portable Air Conditioners with a manufacturing date after 02/01//2020 and sold in the state of California must be in compliance with the new CEC (California Energy Commission) Standard.
The purpose of the new CEC standard is to reduce energy consumption and reduce consumer spending.
The new cooling capacity is based on the DOE (Department of Energy) test method and the cooling capacity is measured differently. The BTU represents SACC (Seasonally Adjusted Cooling Capacity) guidelines. SACC is the weighted average performance of BTU's per hour. This is measured outside of typical conditions resulting in a lower BTU rating.
The heating capacity on Portable Air Conditioners with Heaters are still tested to the ASHRAE test standards.
